Seeing Harry Kane slip away from their grasp, Manchester City spent some time prodding away at other targets to see if they could get something sorted.

One of those was Dusan Vlahovic, who was in the middle of a renewal tussle with Fiorentina, but the Serie A side stood firm, with their owner, Rocco Commisso, making it clear his star striker wasn’t for sale this season.

It was said that a €55m offer was made at one point, but Gazzetta dello Sport believe it was more than that in an article on the Serbian’s situation on Monday.

They look at the renewal situation now the transfer window is shut, revealing the player himself ‘made a wall in front of the offers that came from other clubs’.

This suggests he is the one who turned Manchester City away, because ‘he wanted to stay at least another year in Florence’, giving his word to Commisso during the last few games of last season.

Going forward, the belief is he will sign a new contract, and following the fact that ‘City and Atlético, with bonuses, had already put €70m on the plate’, the discussions around a new release clause are based on it being ‘at least €80m’.

An agreement ‘should be found quickly’, meaning there is a chance of Vlahovic being available at a set price next year.

Once again, it will probably all depend on the Harry Kane situation for Manchester City.
