Never really kicking on from his good 2014 World Cup, Enner Valencia’s time at West Ham hasn’t exactly been prolific.
Scoring 10 goals and picking up eight assists in 72 appearances, even his loan deal to Everton last year wasn’t exactly fruitful with three goals and two assists in 23 appearances.
Originally bought from Pachuca for just under £13m, the now 27-year-old could very well return to Mexico, with Tigres interested in his services.
The Mexican side have been touted as a potential destination by various outlets, and on Wednesday, the club’s vice-president, Miguel Garza, admitted, relayed by Frontera, the West Ham forward was one of their targets.
He said: “Yes, he’s among the players we’re looking at. We haven’t made a move to sign him yet. He’s just one of the many players we’re looking at for the team.”
Miguel Garza’s comments seem to refute claims from other outlets stating that an initial offer of $8m (£6.2m) had already been made for the player, but that doesn’t mean one isn’t on the way.
With Ecuador still in with a chance to qualify for next year’s World Cup, the 27-year-old will be wanting to find a club where he is guaranteed first-team football, which is something West Ham seem reluctant to do at this stage.
Moving back to Mexico, where he thrived before his stint in England, could be the perfect opportunity for him to cement his place in Gustavo Quinteros’ side.
