With just a couple of months left on his contract and no renewal agreement in sight, it seems Ander Herrera will end up leaving Manchester United on a free.
Unless something changes by June 30th, it’s widely expected the Spaniard will move to Paris Saint-Germain, yet there was still murmurs he could return to his former club, Athletic Bilbao.
L’Equipe even stated the La Liga side had trumped the Ligue 1 champions when it came to wages, which sounded quite ridiculous in itself, and that has now been put to bed by the Basque club’s sporting director, Rafa Alkorta.
Speaking to Onda Vasca, relayed by El Desmarque, the transfer chief was asked whether or not Bilbao fans could expect some great transfers this summer.
He replied: “It’s quite difficult because there aren’t many who can improve what we have. We have certain positions covered by youth products and those who can come, well, it’s difficult.
“Ander Herrera will surely sign for another team, Javi Martinez for the same or another team, and Fernando Llorente, from the little we know, is happy at Tottenham and playing the semi-finals of the Champions League.”
So if Herrera is ‘signing for another team’ and it isn’t Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao, that only leaves Paris Saint-Germain from the clubs that have been seriously linked.
It also discredits the claims the Basque side offered more money than the French club.
