Over the last week or so we’ve brought you various updates on Nacho Monreal and his potential departure from Arsenal.
The 33-year-old finds himself slightly out of favour at the Emirates, with Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney ahead of him in the pecking order at present.
He’s been linked with a return to Spain and Real Sociedad in particular.
Their interest goes back all summer long but the last week has seen significant developments, with us covering a report on Monday stating Monreal had an agreement with the club and a move could happen soon.
Diario Vasco cover the situation today and say talks about a move are underway, but they’re not as close to being finalised as first suggested.
According to the newspaper, there was a meeting between the two clubs yesterday and although they helped to ‘clear the road’ there are still loose ends to tie up.
The transfer should then be completed in the next few days once they are out the way.
Diario confirm La Real have an agreement in place with the Arsenal defender and back up earlier claims that he’s keen on the move as he not only finds their project interesting but it will also allow him to be close to his home in Pamplona.
They say he has agreed to a two-year deal with the Spanish side and is even willing to take a hit on his wages to fit into Real Sociedad’s wage structure.
There’s no talk of a transfer fee but given Monreal is 33 and only has a year left on his contract, it seems unlikely Arsenal would be demanding anything too high.
