Earlier this week, we had to explain that West Ham’s links with Moussa Marega got bigger than they were supposed to.
But it’s still a fact that Hammers scouts watched Porto last weekend, and Marega impressed, so there’s no reason to rule out the interest from the London club.
That’s why a story from Correio da Manhã today could turn out to be quite interesting for West Ham, since the newspaper reveals Porto’s plans for the player.
The outlet got some info that the Portuguese side turned down an approach from China for the striker in January, when a club showed they were ready to pay €10m for him.
Porto’s idea was to hold Marega for more time, with the hope of making him more valuable and get a bigger fee in the future.
Nantes also tried to sign him in the summer, and the move was blocked again, this time because manager Sergio Conceição was keen on using him.
Now with four goals in seven games, it seems the Portuguese side were right to wait, and Marega’s price should be a lot more than only €10m.
Correio da Manhã mentions the reports of West Ham’s interest as a sign that Marega can be disputed in the next transfer window, and we all know that his €40m release clause should be the basis for the negotiations this time.
