In the past few weeks, we’ve been seeing reports from Turkey claiming that Fenerbahce are interested in signing Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur.
The defender’s contract with Spurs expires at the end of the season, and the Istanbul club would be interested in spending a little to anticipate his arrival for the winter market.
As Portuguese newspaper O Jogo writes about this situation, they show that’s bad news for Sporting, who had also been keen on signing Dier from Tottenham.
It’s said the Lions are ‘attentive’ to the player, as their manager Ruben Amorim ‘appreciates’ the qualities and ‘experience’ he’d bring to the Lisbon side.
The big problem is that Sporting wanted to sign him for free, especially because Dier’s salary would be a heavy weight for them to afford.
So if Fenerbahce really show up willing to pay for a January transfer, it becomes unlikely that the Lions will manage to compete to bring him back to the club.
What remains to be seen is whether Dier’s past at Sporting would give them a bigger chance, as he featured for the club’s youth ranks and even made 32 appearances for the first team.
