RB Leipzig are ‘working on’ bringing back Timo Werner from Chelsea, with a loan deal ‘being discussed’ by both clubs.
That’s according to BILD, who say Lukaku’s departure to Inter Milan has complicated things for Leipzig.
The newspaper explains that while Werner is the ‘hottest topic’ for the German club, Lukaku leaving for Inter for less than his value has made Chelsea determined to get their money for his former teammate.
Thus a loan with a ‘high loan fee’ with a ‘high purchase clause’ is being discussed. This fits in with Thomas Tuchel’s recent comments on a potential departure.
Leipzig are not the only side who are interested, with Newcastle, Real Madrid and Juventus also showing a concrete interest.
It is the Bundesliga side who are pushing, though, with Oliver Mintzlaff leading the negotiations.
Werner would also like the return to his former club as he has always appreciated the feel-good environment at the club, something he benefitted from. He would even accept halving his salary of €10m a year as he needs playing time ahead of the World Cup.
Talks are underway with Chelsea to make a move happen, although the loan fee still needs to be agreed.
