Earlier on Wednesday, we covered a story from L’Equipe claiming Monaco were looking at Crystal Palace’s Mamadou Sakho to bolster their defence in Ligue 1.

Currently struggling under Thierry Henry, the principality club are going to use the January transfer window to recruit a more experienced defender, and there was talk of a ‘nice transfer fee’ potentially being made to the Eagles to convince them.

We were dubious about the whole thing, as we couldn’t see Roy Hodgson agreeing to selling a key component of his plans midway through the campaign, and it appears nothing more will come of this story.

RMC Sport are reporting on Wednesday afternoon that Monaco have found their man in Schalke’s Naldo, who is allegedly already undergoing a medical ahead of the move.

As for Sakho, the French outlet state the Ligue 1 side aren’t ‘following’ that lead, suggesting there was never anything in it or they’ve just decided the Brazilian centre-back will do for now.
