Rangers will have to make a decision on José Cifuentes’ future at Ibrox in the summer window.
That’s according to journalist César Luis Merlo, and he shares an update on the Rangers player for Studio Fútbol.
The Ecuador international left Los Angeles FC for Rangers in August 2023. He made 20 appearances for the Scottish club before they sent him on loan to Cruzeiro in February 2024.
Cifuentes’ temporary stay in Brazil was cut short in the summer and Rangers then let him join Aris Thessaloniki on loan with an option to buy.
The midfielder played 2,361 minutes from 31 games in all competitions for the Greek club this season.
Despite his ‘strong performances’, Aris and the Rangers owned player have agreed that the purchase option won’t be exercised. César Luis Merlo hasn’t provided an explanation why the player won’t continue at Aris next season.
Cifuentes has to return to Ibrox, where he has a contract until 2027 and Rangers will then have to evaluate his future. They are working to appoint new manager for next season, and he could have a say in the Ecuadorian’s future.
