Bayern Munich ‘will try to hijack’ Liverpool’s move for Xabi Alonso in the summer after electing to part ways with Thomas Tuchel.

That’s according to journalist Christian Falk, who reports that Liverpool have a tough battle on the horizon now a decision has been made on Tuchel.

Bayern announced today that Tuchel is set to step down at the end of the season following a disappointing campaign that has seen the German giants fall eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the title race.

They’ve also been knocked out of the German cup by lower league opposition and beaten by Lazio in the Champions League, heaping the pressure on Tuchel.

They’ve now decided to part ways and Falk reports that Bayern ‘will try to hijack’ Xabi Alonso’s potential move to Liverpool.

The Spanish coach has been named as the favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield in the summer and seemed to be edging close to that move, but Bayern have now decided to intervene.

It all rests on whether Alonso decides to stay at Leverkusen or depart. If it is the latter, it seems he will spark a battle between Liverpool and Bayern in the coming months.
