Back in the transfer window, Wolverhampton Wanderers were linked to Sporting wonderkid Iuri Ribeiro. Reports from Portugal were all saying that Nuno Espírito Santo was keen on bringing the player to the Championship.
We hada little dig at the time, and found out that although the Portuguese media was crediting O Jogo, the newspaper’s article actually came from a mistranslation of an English story that suggested the move.
So it didn’t make any sense, especially because Sporting would supposedly demand €9m for the player.
But O Jogo insisted on that a few days later, claiming Wolves were indeed interested, however Medeiros would stay and have a few chances this season.
Well, Medeiros did have chances, eight times to be accurate. But he didn’t take them well, and now Sporting are looking to offload him.
The very same O Jogo claims that the Lions are now selling him for €12m, and when listing the interested sides, Wolves are forgotten. Krasnodar and Roma, both who were linked in the summer, are named, though.
So there’s a big chance that Wolves were never really interested, and even if they were, asking €12m for a flop would be too much. Maybe calling Nuno and offering a loan deal is the best Sporting could do for this move to happen.
