Borussia Monchengladbach will move quickly next year to keep youngster Winsley Boteli out of the hands of Everton, with their interest leading to a ‘turbulent’ few weeks for him and the club.
That’s according to Rheinische Post, relayed by Gladbach Live, who cover the player today and the plans in place at Borussia to keep him long-term.
The newspaper explains that the last few weeks have been turbulent for the youngster, whose ‘top sporting performances’ have led to increased speculation about his future.
The increasing reports have ‘made it clear to Borussia fans’ that they were worried Boteli could leave in the coming months and the club have been urged to get him signed to a professional contract as soon as possible.
That is exactly what the club plan to do, and they have with other players in the past, but patience is needed as Boteli can only sign a professional deal once he turns 18 on July 5th, 2024.
Borussia plan to offer him that deal as soon as they are able, although they are well protected anyway as his current youth contract runs until 2025 anyway.
In the meantime, the club wants to ‘proceed cautiously’ with him but also know that they have to show him good prospects at the club or ‘run the risk of losing him’ to another club, with Everton and Juventus in particular lurking in the background.
