Nuno Tavares is already in London as he awaits completion of his move to Arsenal.

The transfer has been a relatively painless experience for the clubs involved, with negotiations not seeming very difficult. The fullback arrived in England on a private jet and will now be in quarantine, where he’s said to still be training on his own.

O Jogo has an article today bringing some of the details of the transfer. The move had initially been reported to cost Arsenal €8m plus a further €2m in bonus payment, and the latter figure is now put at €2.5m.

The Portuguese newspaper say the bonus payments are split in three.

Benfica will receive all the money on condition of Tavares getting a senior cap with Portugal, him making a certain number of appearances for Arsenal, and the Gunners qualifying for the Champions League.

There’s no clarity whether that Champions League bonus is valid only for the coming season, or is open for the duration of the player’s contract.

Nevertheless, O Jogo say Benfica will ‘cheer’ for Arsenal, hoping Mikel Arteta’s side can make it.
