Atlético Madrid have refused to let Joao Félix and Matheus Cunha leave this summer amid interest from Manchester United in the duo.
The Red Devils’ threat still looms over the La Liga side as they have set their sights on Yannick Carrasco.
That’s according to Marca, who say the 28-year-old’s name has been mentioned as one of the possible objectives for Manchester United.
It’s said the Premier League side’s interest in the winger has not yet been converted into a formal offer.
They have the financial muscle to carry out the operation. If Erik ten Hag’s side decide to make an approach for the Belgium international, they will need it since Los Rojiblancos will not negotiate his sale.
In other words, Manchester United will have to pay the player’s €60m release clause to take him away from the Metropolitano.
Carrasco’s contract expires in 2024 and his renewal is underway. Atlético’s intention is to double the clause and significantly increase his salary.
Irrespective of how happy the player is in Madrid, Marca warns Diego Simeone’s side that without the renewal, the ‘threat will always be present’.
