The Portuguese media continues to be sure that Sporting don’t want to trigger the €3.5m buying option they have over Everton loanee João Virgínia.

Today it’s newspaper O Jogo who claims that despite being willing to keep the goalkeeper in their squad for next season, the Lions are not keen on spending that amount.

The outlet writes Sporting ‘do not consider paying’ the fee to stay with the player. Still, they ‘do not exclude’ the possibility of keeping him as long as the Toffees accept to negotiate his sale for less.

It’s said Virgínia, who’s a support option for the ‘unquestionable’ Antonio Adan, is indeed liked by the club, who just don’t want to make such a big effort to sign him.

Since joining Sporting at the start of the season, Virgínia was only able to make seven appearances for the club, and could not have his debut in the Portuguese League yet.

The Lions’ wish not to pay the buying clause had already been reported by newspaper A Bola this week as well. Now if they can’t afford €3.5m, we wonder for how much would Everton need to offer him to get that transfer done.

Virgínia’s contract with the Toffees runs until 2024.
