Ajax are working to keep youngster Gabriel Misehouy ‘out of the hands’ of Manchester City, who are ‘pulling’ to get him in January.
That’s according to journalist Tim van Duijn of Voetbal International, who says the Dutch side are confident of keeping the youngster despite Manchester City’s efforts.
We covered a report a week ago that stated City were in the race for the 18-year-old, who currently plies his trade for Ajax’s U21 side.
That report claimed the City Football Group, which Manchester City are of course at the top of, had been watching the midfielder closely and were looking at adding him to their ever-expanding network of young players scooped up from around the world.
That was partly due to the fact his current contract is set to expire in June 2024, meaning he will be available on a free next year and is free to start pre-contract negotiations from January 1st under the Bosman ruling.
Ajax, though, aren’t keen on losing him to the Etihad, according to Van Duijn and are hopeful they can keep him where he is.
“Ajax hope to keep Gabriel Misehouy out of the hands of Manchester City,” Ajax Fansite report him saying to Voetbal International.
“The player himself wants nothing more than to succeed in Amsterdam, but unlike his peers Silvano Vos and Amourricho van Axel Dongen, he hardly trained with the first team under Maurice Steijn.
“In Jong Ajax, Misehouy was one of the few bright spots. Although Manchester City are pulling for him, it is expected that Ajax will want to come out with him in the short term.”
