Entering the final six months of his 18-month loan with Schalke from Chelsea, Rahman Baba has only featured once for the German side since September 2nd.
That appearance came in a Champions League game against Lokomotiv Moscow, which the Bundesliga outfit won 1-0, but other than that, he’s either been on the bench or out of the squad altogether.
Having seen his situation, a number of clubs are allegedly wanting to rescue the 24-year-old’s career, and some have been named by Fussball Transfers.
According to the German website, both Lille and Nice in Ligue 1 are keen on the Chelsea loanee, as are Villarreal and Girona and an ‘ambitious Premier League side’.
Down their end, Schalke are said to want to put an end to the loan early since he has ‘no future’ at the club.
Contracted at Stamford Bridge until 2020, next summer will be Chelsea’s last chance to make some of their initial £18m expenditure back, and they’ll probably be hoping a good six months somewhere else will help his price go up.
There’s been no mention of the Blues’ wishes in all this, but our guess is they’ll be open to a return if they can immediately send Baba back out somewhere where he’ll play regularly.
