Ever since around the January transfer window, there has been some sort of quiet confidence within the Italian press that Napoli could get Hirving Lozano from PSV.
The Mexican forward is seen as the ideal reinforcement for Carlo Ancelotti’s frontline, where he would likely succeed the likes of Dries Mertens and José Callejon, both on the wrong side of 30 and edging towards the end of their stay in the south of Italy.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport believe the club are now worried about Manchester United, who could throw themselves into the mix, also needing a new winger for next season.
As they put it, Napoli need to start pushing harder in order to ‘avoid’ the Red Devils joining the party.
It seems Napoli have the upper hand, and with a transfer fee of around €40m expected to exchange hands to get a deal over the line, it’s no wonder other clubs, like Manchester United, would be sniffing around trying to find an opening.
This comes after CalcioNapoli24 stated on Wednesday that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had told his board he wanted the Mexican signed ‘immediately’.
After all, there is a distinct lack of excitement down that right-hand side at Old Trafford these days.
