Bryan Gil didn’t have his most scintillating performance for Valencia at the weekend, as the Spanish side beat Elche 1-0, but that hasn’t impacted his status as an ‘idol’ among fans of the club, reports El Desmarque.

Since arriving on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in the January window, Gil has managed to make the Valencia support fall in love with him. According to the report, that adoration will be used as the club look to keep the Spurs owned player in the longer term.

It’s all part of ‘The Bryan Gil Plan’, Valencia’s rounded effort to convince the player his medium term future should be with them, rather than at Tottenham or anywhere else.

The idea is to show him how loved and appreciated he is, and how he can have a better chance of a Spain call up if he stays where he is beyond the end of the season.

El Desmarque say fans have ‘applauded him, cheered and asked him to stay’, but even if this ‘plan’ works, there’s the very big question of what Tottenham decide.

It’s unlikely Valencia would be able to pay the transfer fee required for a permanent move, so Spurs would have to accept a further loan for the 21-year-old.
