Botafogo have an agreement on the way for the signing of Fernando Marçal from Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to claims from the Brazilian media.

Globo Esporte reports that even though the contract isn’t signed yet, it’s just a ‘matter of time’ until the 33-year-old officially joins the Rio de Janeiro side.

Marçal’s contract with Wolves expires at the end of June, and Botafogo will be keen on the deal because he’s becoming a free agent.

Knowing it will still take a while until the player is released by the Molineux side, the Brazilian club is expected to go after other left-backs to hold the position for the next couple of months.

Fernando Marçal joined Wolves in a €2m move from Lyon in 2020. He only made 15 appearances in his first season, getting more playing time in the current one, with 17 games already.

Now with his decision to return to Brazil at this stage, we wonder if the Premier League side even tried to keep him at the club by offering him a new contract.
