It seems Nottingham Forest could really settle their debts with Benfica with an unusual deal made by Evangelos Marinakis.
Back last week, the Portuguese press had already claimed the Greek businessman could use two of his clubs to make some agreements in the current transfer window.
Now newspaper A Bola comes up with more details about this case today, saying Benfica are trying to find a solution for the issue.
It starts with a debt that Nottingham Forest have with the Lisbon side, as they still need to pay €6m for part of João Carvalho’s transfer to England, which cost them a total of €15m.
Meanwhile, Benfica are interested in the signing of Olympiakos defender Rúben Semedo.
The Greek club is also owed by Evangelos Marinakis, who are demanding €12m for the transfer.
To make things a little more complicated, Olympiakos have made official the signing of Vitória Guimarães midfielder Pepê.
Benfica were still owned a percentage of his rights, so from the €4.5m that the Greek side paid for the transfer, €3m are going to the Eagles.
That means the Lisbon club have a ‘credit’ of around €9m with Marinakis, and are trying to unblock this deal.
A Bola says the next few days should be ‘decisive’, and it seems there’s a real chance that Nottingham Forest could see their €6m debt for Carvalho disappear thanks to some Olympiakos business.
