With a contract expiring in June of next year, Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz is a very attractive target for a number of clubs.
While Steven Gerrard’s side aren’t doing as well as expected this season so far, few have forgotten what the Brazilian can bring to a team, which is why some are thinking about making a January move for the midfielder.
Arsenal gave it a go over the summer, and could return in the next transfer window, but it’s AS Roma, who were also previously keen, who could make the first move.
This comes courtesy of Roma Giallorossa in Italy, who claim as an exclusive that Tiago Pinto, the club’s general manager, has three objectives on his list, with the first being Douglas Luiz.
His contract situation could ‘play in favour of Roma’, and the belief is the ‘good relationship with the player’s entourage could facilitate the operation’.
Since the Serie A side would be looking to get him in January, they would have to pay a fee to Aston Villa for his services, which could entice the Villans, as this will be their last chance to monetise a departure unless the Brazil international extends his contract.
With that seemingly unlikely considering he has yet to do so, this could, as Roma Giallorossa say, be a relatively easy deal to pull off, especially if Luiz were to start pushing for it too.
The other two players being looked at as alternatives are Houssem Aouar and Dani Ceballos.
After nine games, Aston Villa sit 16th in the Premier League, scoring just seven goals, with two wins, three draws and four losses to their name.
