According to Turkish journalist Ertan Suzgun, Besiktas are in talks with Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Belgian defender will become a free agent at the end of the season, and he’s now free to speak with clubs from overseas with regards to a pre-contract agreement.
Suzgun claims Besiktas’ board have asked Sergen Yalcin’s opinion about the 33 year old, and after the Black Eagles manager gave the green light, they made contact with the player.
It’s claimed both parties will hold further talks in the next few weeks as Besiktas look to convince him over a move to Turkey.
Porto’s Chidozie Awaziem and Alanyaspor’s Welinton are also said to be on Besiktas’ list, but it seems the Turkish side’s first choice is Vertonghen.
The former Ajax defender has made 26 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side in all competitions this season, scoring two goals.
However, he’s hardly figured for the London side since the Premier League restarted last month.
