Inter Milan have decided to take Matías Vecino off the market after receiving ‘another inadequate proposal’ from Everton for him.
The Uruguayan midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Milan this month after falling down the pecking order under Antonio Conte.
Everton were thought to be keen, with them looking to add a central midfielder to their squad before Friday’s transfer deadline.
However, the two clubs appeared to differ in their valuation of the player, with Everton’s initial €14m bid rejected outright by the Italians.
According to Calciomercato, the Blues returned to make another bid, but this was deemed ‘inadequate’ by Milan and also rejected.
Vecino is now set to stay with the Serie A side instead, with them deciding to take him off the transfer market and instead reintegrate him back into the squad.
Inter decided that rather than taking on a ‘second-tier midfielder’ to replace Vecino, which would also include the risk of waiting for him to settle in the squad, they have decided to keep Vecino and use him.
Gazzetta back this up, saying the club decided to follow the ‘internal solution’ and back what they have already. That involved keeping Vecino and promoting Sebastiano Esposito to fourth choice.
They add that even if an appropriate offer were to arrive, it would be rejected as there is no time to replace Vecino with someone at the same level.
Instead, the ‘shared objective’ is to stick with what they have and re-evaluate.
While that has ended the chances of him moving, it seems a conversation with Antonio Conte also helped them to make the decision.
According to PassioneInter, Vecino is returning after a ‘clarification’ with Conte, with CalcioMercato saying the same in a separate piece on Inter’s current transfer situation.
Indeed, Vecino started in Inter’s 2-1 win over Fiorentina last night, further adding credence to the idea he won’t be leaving this month. Everton will have to find their midfielder elsewhere.
