Remember Michael Hector? He’s the guy who Chelsea almost inexplicably signed from Reading in the summer 2015 transfer window. Hector had been with Reading since 2009 and had been on no less than 11 loan moves away from the club.
After signing for Chelsea, Hector was sent straight back to Reading on loan, before returning to Stamford Bridge last summer. Not in Antonio Conte’s plans, Chelsea managed to get the player a loan to Eintracht Frankfurt, a great opportunity to earn a permanent deal.
However, things haven’t gone swimmingly. German newspaper Bild report that Hector was recently sent to watch three games in the stands as a ‘disciplinary action’ to try and get his head focused.
Manager Niko Kovac is quoted as saying: “Sometimes you have to resort to such methods. It’s about being concentrated for 90 minutes. As an defender, you cannot make mistakes, nothing is easy-going. Because you get into trouble and put the team in stressful situations that they don’t need to be in.”
Bild say Hector now has to work really hard to persuade Frankfurt to take him longer term from Chelsea, or to impress someone else. With a Stamford Bridge contract until June 2020, the 24 year old has a good level of security with Chelsea.
