Manchester United target Pedro Gonçalves is set to get a new contract at his club Sporting, according to reports from Portugal.
Newspaper A Bola claims the player is set to get to a new deal from the Lions after the international break, which will see him get a pay raise.
Gonçalves joined on a €6.5m deal from Famalicão last summer, and the reason behind Sporting’s decision to increase their star’s wages is the great season he’s been having so far.
With 15 goals and five assists, the midfielder has convinced the Portuguese side to reward him with a better salary and go after the other 50% of his rights, which still belong to his former club.
A Bola recalls that Manchester United have already made an approach to get to know the conditions for a potential move.
The bad news for the Red Devils in all this is that Gonçalves’ release clause is about to go up.
He’s currently protected by a fee of €60m, and although the newspaper doesn’t know the new amount, they’re certain it will be increased, with the report saying Sporting’s intention is to keep the player for at least one more season.
