Nikola Milenković arrived at Nottingham Forest in the summer window, after spending seven years at Fiorentina.
The centre-back was a regular for the Italian club and was part of their squad that lost the UEFA Conference League final.
Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Stefano Agresti insists the Serie A side haven’t lost a key player with Milenković’s sale to Nottingham Forest.
Agresti analysed Fiorentina’s squad for Radio Sportiva, relayed by Labaro Viola. He has expressed his delight with Luca Ranieri and Pietro Comuzzo forming a partnership at the club in the heart of the defence.
The journalist is of the belief La Viola haven’t been successful with central defenders, and this includes Milenković, in recent years. He explains why Fiorentina shouldn’t worry about losing the 27-year-old to Nottingham Forest in the last window.
“In recent years Fiorentina have struggled a lot to find reliable defenders. I thought Milenković could become an important player at international level, but in the end he never exploded. He was sold in the summer, but I honestly don’t think there are any grounds for having any regrets,” he said.
Nottingham Forest reportedly paid £12m to Fiorentina for the Serbia international. He’s made six Premier League appearances this season and the Reds have lost one of those.
Nuno Espírito Santo and Nottingham Forest fans are thrilled with Milenković, and the above sounds a little like Italian sour grapes.
