Back on Monday evening, the Portuguese media reported that Nottingham Forest placed a €30m bid to sign Morato from Benfica.
It had already been claimed that the Eagles previously turned down a €25m offer from Fulham for the same player, and it wasn’t known if the Tricky Trees’ attempt would be accepted.
Portuguese newspapers today say Benfica are still to give Nottingham Forest a response. And according to O Jogo, the reply should be negative.
It’s said the Reds’ bid ‘should still not convince’ Eagles president Rui Costa to negotiate.
Benfica manager Roger Schmidt reportedly included Morato in the list of players who shouldn’t be transferred, and the club believe the player should soon be worth more.
O Jogo claims that even though Benfica are still to reply to Nottingham Forest, they should decline the bid, and the Tricky Trees may actually come back with more money.
Morato is protected by a €100m release clause and a contract until 2027, so the Eagles will certainly not get frightened by any approaches this summer.
We shall see how this story develops in the coming days.
