Selling Renato Sanches to Milan, Amadou Onana to Everton and letting Xeka go on a free, Lille have been looking around the transfer market to find some players to make up for their exits.
Rémy Cabella arrived from Montpellier, while Jonas Martin was signed on for no fee from Rennes and Yusuf Yazici came back from his loan from CSKA Moscow, but that wasn’t enough for Paulo Fonseca, however, who is targeting a couple more players in Adam Ounas and Everton’s André Gomes.
L’Equipe report on Thursday afternoon that the Ligue 1 side have ‘set their sights on’ the Toffees’ midfielder, and ‘talks are taking place between the two clubs’ regarding the 29-year-old.
This is clearly a move to add experience to the squad, seeing as Gomes has featured for the likes of Everton, Barcelona and Valencia in the past, as well as being part of the Portugal squad that lifted the 2016 Euros alongside former Southampton and West Ham defender José Fonte, now at Lille.
Whether they come to anything remains to be seen, but it’s clear the player isn’t part of Frank Lampard’s plans at Goodison Park this season, as he has yet to feature in any game.
If this goes through, his last public appearance as an Everton player will have been sitting on the bench against Leeds on August 30th.
