Antonio Conte has been sharing sob stories about his Tottenham Hotspur squad and how losing a few players to injuries impacts the team so much.
As has been the case at every club he’s managed in recent years, the manager wants to be strongly backed in the transfer market. That’s obviously understandable for such an ambitious manager, he doesn’t just want to be battling for a Champions League place, and certainly doesn’t want to drop below that.
There’s been endless talk in Italy that Conte will demand big spending from Spurs if he’s to stay at the club in the longer term. Of course, the Italian media know how demanding the manager can be, so they take his words with some knowledge and read the hints behind them.
Over the past week, the Turin media have been talking up a move for Juventus’ Weston McKennie. In Rome, that’s been seen, and there’s a belief Nicolo Zaniolo will also be on the radar for January.
ASRomaLive say the Serie A asked for €50m amid Tottenham interest in the summer, and should Spurs arrive with such an amount in January then Roma will ‘seriously consider’ the transfer.
Despite of all that, and despite ASRomaLive ignoring this factor, there’s the rather big issue of Jose Mourinho.
Initially, there were doubts over whether Jose and Nicolo would get on, but those have since calmed. The 23-year-old is a regular, and Mourinho won’t want to sell one of his better players in January, especially to Tottenham.
