Since Mario Bittencourt became the president of Fluminense last month, he’s made clear that the deal with Watford for João Pedro hasn’t been very good for the Brazilian side.

The Hornets only paid €2.5m to sign the starlet, and even though the agreement could include another €7.5m in performance bonuses, it’s the general consensus that the 17-year-old should be worth much more.

Fortunately for Fluminense, the deal includes a clause which cancels the transfer, as long as the Hornets are paid a fine of €20m.

Clubs like Barcelona and Manchester City have reportedly made approaches to know more about these conditions, and it looks like Mario Bittencourt is very interested in finding a new deal.

Speaking to the local press (via UOL), Bittencourt admitted that he will seek a new agreement. If not to send the player a new club, he will at least try to keep him for longer. Since João Pedro turns 18 in September, he’s supposed to move to Watford in January 2020.

“Having passed that technical and legal part, I would tell you that I am already working from a commercial point of view to try to keep him here for a longer time. We already have a few conversations about this. We know that there are clubs interested in participating in this financial transaction.”
