Earlier this week, Borna Barišić’s agent shocked the Rangers world somewhat by revealing there was little chance his client, despite signing a new contract, would be remaining at Ibrox beyond the current season.
Despite stating the player’s current priority was to help Steven Gerrard’s team get as far as possible during the current campaign, he also made those in charge aware that after the 27-year-old’s performances, it would be hard to stop him from leaving.
That has, of course, caught the attention of the Italian media after Roma’s January interest in the Croatia international.
Corriere dello Sport on Wednesday have a section on Ives Cakarun’s comment, which obviously play in the Serie A club’s favour, and they finish it off by explaining the Italians ‘could return for more’.
With Alexander Kolarov hardly getting any younger at 34 years of age, signing Barišić would make a lot of sense, especially with stats like two goals and eight assists from left-back in 20 league games.
As Cakarun said, his performances this season have broadened his future options, and a move to Serie A at a historical club like Roma could certainly be appealing.
They would just need to also convince Rangers.
