Everton have seen a €12m offer for FC Porto youngster Gonçalo Borges rejected, with the Portuguese side holding out for €15m.
That’s according to O Jogo, who say the Toffees face competition from Estoril for the Under-21 international.
They explain that Borges has been earning interest following a strong start to the season for Porto’s B team, scoring two goals in three games so far.
That’s seen some clubs come forwards for him and the newspaper states that Porto ‘resisted an Everton attack’ in recent days to sign him.
According to their information, Everton started the bidding for the youngster by offering €10m to take him to Goodison Park and even later showed a willingness to go to €12m.
However, that’s not enough for Porto, who have ‘aimed for €15m’ and never moved from that figure as they believe Borges could be ‘very useful’ this season for the B team and the senior side.
In addition, they believe that the player could continue to develop further, hence why he signed a new contract with a termination clause of €50m in July.
They intend to try and keep hold of him in the last hours of the window, although there are still clubs in Portugal who are keen, and Everton could always raise their bid also. As of yesterday, though, the Porto response to any effort was no.
