Much like Tiemoué Bakayoko at Chelsea, Michy Batshuayi is part of the unwanted group of Frank Lampard’s squad.
Rarely used by the former midfielder, the Belgian striker knows he has to leave the club to get game time, but doesn’t want to sacrifice the level he will be playing at too much either.
That’s why the latest option at his disposal could fit the bill perfectly, as Corriere di Bergamo explain Atalanta in Serie A want him.
They are a team currently in their prime, playing some great football and qualified for next year’s Champions League.
They tick all the boxes, with the newspaper claiming they want Batshuayi ‘on loan from Chelsea’.
This would happen ‘especially in the case of Duván Zapata’s farewell’, with the Colombian a target for the likes of Juventus.
It’s stated Atalanta made a few enquiries about Batshuayi’s situation, and they received rather ‘relaxed signals’.
Corriere di Bergamo reveal they could get the player ‘on loan with the right to redeem, plus the possibility of spreading a profitable contract over several seasons, with a four-year plus option’.
Basically, if Zapata leaves, they have an easy plan B to turn to in Batshuayi.
Then, the big question is asked: could he arrive even if the Colombian stayed?
That’s ‘more complicated’ but the idea of the Serie A club doing a ‘calculated madness’ isn’t outright excluded.
There is one question mark in all of this, and that’s Batshuayi’s contract, which is set to expire in 2021, but there have been a few reports, like this one from TuttoMercatoWeb, that Chelsea could extend it and then let him go out on loan.
That certainly would help Atalanta in all this.
