When Sporting director Hugo Viana spoke to the English media at the weekend, he made it very clear it’s unlikely Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo would return to the Lisbon side this summer.
Still, since he added a ‘you never know’ to his speech, that was enough for the Portuguese media to present a big reaction about his quotes.
Newspaper Jornal de Notícias is the only one who managed to get some information on Sporting’s chances of signing the 37-year-old, and they do make it clear how hard it would be.
According to the outlet, Ronaldo’s return doesn’t depend on the Lions or the offer they’d make. It’s said it’s all in the hands of the player, who only needs to say he wants the move and the Lisbon side will be ready to welcome him.
Jornal de Notícias, however, adds that the salary is a ‘delicate issue’, since it’s said he makes €30m per season at Manchester United.
The newspaper claims that when Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother asked him to finish his career at Sporting, ‘the answer was not negative’. Still, it’s not clear when that will happen.
It’s said the forward wants to first sort his situation at Manchester United, following rumours that he’d like to leave the club. It’s said he wants a destination who offer him ‘real aspirations’ in the competition, and neither the Red Devils nor the Lions can do that.
Cristiano Ronaldo will always have rumours around him, and most are best taken with a pinch of salt.
