On Monday morning, it seemed certain that Cardiff City were signing Andrej Ilic from Valerenga.

Norwegian outlet TV2 claimed that the Championship side were ‘close to agreeing’ his arrival, as there had been a ‘breakthrough in negotiations’ between clubs.

It now seems there could be a big turnaround, though, because journalist Arilas Aould-Saada comes to Twitter to claim Lille are now trying to hijack the deal.

The French side are said to be offering €3.75m plus bonuses for the transfer. Their advantage is said to be quicker payments and ‘more guarantees’ than Cardiff City.

Back in the original report, it had been said that the Championship side could pay a total amount of €6.2m for the transfer, but only around €3.1m was ‘guaranteed’, as the rest was related to performance bonuses which seemed ‘unrealistic’.

That would be a reason why Lille’s offer is so attractive for Valerenga, who’ll clearly push for their best interests when accepting bids.

So even though Ilic’s transfer to Cardiff City had just been pending details and the player’s own approval, it now seems he could be pushed somewhere else instead.
