Barcelona have reached a ‘consensus’ to find a way out for Memphis Depay in January, and Chelsea are likely to be one of the options.
That’s according to AS, who name Chelsea among the potential suitors for the Dutchman when he is made available for a transfer.
They explain that Depay is the ‘last of the pack’ at Barcelona this season, having managed the least minutes of any player in the first-team squad.
Several factors have contributed towards this, including Barcelona not liking the way he handled the injury he suffered at the end of September while on international duty.
This led to widespread criticism, particularly among the Barcelona fanbase when the player is seen going out at night in the city.
With his contract also expiring in the summer, Barcelona won’t see a single euro if he does leave at that point, and they want to avoid that.
Thus, those in charge at the Camp Nou have ‘decided to give the green light’ to a departure if any ‘interesting’ offer were to arrive.
Any figure above €5m would be a welcome amount, a figure that the likes of Chelsea would be easily able to afford.
They were keen to sign the Dutchman in the summer, but the player refused outright to leave.
The situation has now changed and the possibility of playing in the Champions League could change his mind on a potential move to Stamford Bridge.
