Page 10 of Thursday’s edition of AS has a big quote as the headline: “Diego Costa? In football anything is possible.”
Those words come from Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo, who spoke to the Spanish newspaper about various things, including of course the Chelsea striker.
Costa has been repeatedly linked with a return to Atletico almost since he arrived in London, and it doesn’t seem like the Spanish club want to keep their interest a secret.
There’s obviously a strong bond between club and player, Atletico and Diego Simeone have a way of getting under the skin of footballers, and it’s clearly a great club to play for in this era.
However, Chelsea aren’t so bad either, and living in London when you’re a multi-millionaire isn’t such a hardship, although it’s a different culture to Madrid.
AS further questioned Cerezo on Costa, asking if a return was closer: “The truth is, I have no idea.”
On whether Costa could be an option for number 9, Cerezo said: “I do not know, you would have to ask him. We and our coaches are working on getting a good player to cover the position we need.”
If Costa was to return to Atletico, they’d have to put up a relatively huge fee, and Chelsea would surely have to be able to get a replacement.
