Over the past month or so, AZ Alkmaar have been fighting off offers for their new star Vincent Janssen, who scored 27 goals in 34 league games last season after arriving on a free from Almere City last summer.
Such a goalscoring record has obviously caught the interest of many clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, who have been looking for a new backup striker for Harry Kane all season.
Fees of €12m, €15m or even €20m have been branded about by the media; something AZ’s director of football finds rather amusing considering they don’t even know how much they want to sell him for.
He told Voetbal International: “Apparently I’ve given a fee, but that is nonsense. I am against any newspaper naming an amount. In fact, I’m against any club mentioning the amount we want for Vincent.”
As for offers for the player from Tottenham and Wolfsburg: “We have rejected them. There is therefore no change in the situation surrounding Janssen. I read that Paris Saint-Germain might be interested, but we know nothing about that. PSG have not spoken to us.”
Considering any fee for Janssen would be a profit, you wouldn’t think the Dutch club would hold out for too much, but when you have a player capable of scoring 32 goals in 49 appearances, you hold onto him until you can’t afford to any longer!
