Sky Sports linking Tottenham Hotspur with Geoffrey Kondogbia didn’t exactly rock the Valencia press.
The midfielder is technically on loan at the club from Inter Milan, but the Tottenham claims have brought a rash of insistence that his stay is nailed on.
First, Plaza Deportiva explained Valencia have only just agreed payment terms with Inter, and will be able to spread a €25m transfer fee over four payments. On top of that, Kondogbia himself was said to have agreed a deal, so the message to Mauirico Pochettino and Tottenham was very much that they’d missed their chance.
Of course, money always talks, and no deal is impossible, but there’s been Spanish confidence Valencia have got this one sorted, regardless of what Tottenham want.
Marca go with a similar line, saying Kondogbia is already Valencia’s most important recruit of next summer. ‘The club is obliged’ to go through with the deal and are very happy to do so, given the player’s performances.
Really the only way of stopping this is if Kondogbia has his head turned by Tottenham and kicks and screams for the move.
