FC Copenhagen want to bring Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen back to the club in the winter market, according to Tipsbladet.

At the start of this season, Unai Emery preferred Joe Gauci as Emiliano Martínez’s deputy and started the Australian in two EFL Cup games. The Villans manager then promoted Olsen as the second-choice stopper in October and he made one appearance this season.

The 34-year-old has less than six months left on his deal and the Danish club are keen on taking him away from Aston Villa in January.

Olsen was at Copenhagen between 2016 and 2018, and they are working on bringing him back. The report states the Sweden international’s former club are ‘in dialogue with Aston Villa’ to try and sign him.

Emery values the former Everton man as Martínez’s backup and would like to retain him as they are still active in three competitions this season. Therefore, the Danish club will need ‘good negotiating skills’ if they were to succeed in their pursuit of Olsen.

The Swede is keen on a move because he can be a starter at Copenhagen, and they have to convince Aston Villa to sanction a deal for what would be an impressive signing for them.
