Some clubs really like to deal with their transfer business early. In some cases, even too early. That seems to be happening with Napoli right now.
Italian website Calcio Mercato brings a story saying that because the club expects Faouzi Ghoulam to leave for Manchester United in the summer, they will go after Benfica’s Alex Grimaldo to replace him.
Quite a solid plan, since Grimaldo would cost half of the money that Ghoulam would be sold for.
The problem is that in the end of the article, Calcio Mercato recalls that Manchester United may not be that keen on Ghoulam after all.
As the player recently had a serious knee injury, Jose Mourinho and those in charge at Old Trafford wouldn’t feel very comfortable about spending €60m on a player who they don’t know is fully recovered.
So for Napoli to buy Grimaldo, they have to wait and see what will be of Ghoulam’s future. That seems quite obvious, but apparently there’s a whole confusion about that.
