It’s been a while since we heard anything about Michy Batshuayi, owned by Chelsea but currently on loan at Besiktas.
Signing a new contract with the Stamford Bridge side before heading off to Turkey for the season, the Belgium international and the Blues were hoping for a good season, with a potential sale coming afterwards, one that would see the striker find a new permanent home while the Premier League side would get most of their initial expenditure back.
Spending £35m on the forward when they bought him from Marseille in 2016, Chelsea have always struggled to get the best out of the Belgian, which has led to a plethora of loans, ranging from Borussia Dortmund to Crystal Palace via Valencia.
Besiktas was meant to be the one that changed everything, and while he has found the back of the next a number of times (12 in 34 appearances), DH in Belgium explain the Turkish side aren’t thinking about making the move permanent.
They explain the primary reason is money, because those in charge of transfers in Istanbul ‘aren’t ready to consent to such a large financial effort’, which means Batshuayi is expected to ‘return to the start’, meaning Chelsea.
This is a scenario that is ‘not reassuring’, especially because the Blues are currently in a tough situation following the sanctions placed on Roman Abramovich.
Add to that the fact he has failed to score a goal in the Turkish cup or in Europe, and you have a recipe where a cautious club are reluctant to spend big on a player who hasn’t stepped up when needed.
One to keep an eye on.
