One of the stranger stories during the final days of the summer transfer window was that of Diafra Sakho and his failed transfer to Rennes in France.
The Senegalese forward, who desperately wanted to leave West Ham, travelled to France ahead of what he thought could be a possible move, only to be told to return to England as the Hammers wouldn’t be selling him.
Over in France, the Ligue 1 side were rather keen on his services, and that hasn’t changed one bit, according to Mercato 365, who claim there’s every chance they’ll return for another attempt in January.
The French website state the Hammers’ striker remains a ‘privileged’ option for Rennes in the coming weeks, even if they know it won’t be easy to reach an agreement with West Ham.
David Moyes’ new side allegedly want to rake in a nice profit on the 28-year-old, having spent just €5m on him in the first place, and they definitely could end up holding out for a substantial fee, especially midway through the season.
Sakho hasn’t exactly been a regular for West Ham this season, playing just 450 minutes of football spread out over 17 appearances, but has, in that small window of opportunity, managed to score four goals and pick up one assist.
