Besiktas has not given up on signing Newcastle United defender Jamal Lascelles, with the club still ‘in contact’ with his agents.

That’s according to Hurriyet, who say director of football Samet Aybaba has not given up just yet despite obstacles in the way of a move so far.

The Turkish side have been linked to the Newcastle man throughout this window as they look to strengthen Fernando Santos’ squad before the Turkish deadline on February 9th.

They had hopes to sign Lascelles on a free transfer, given his contract with Newcastle expires in the summer, but the Magpies blocked that proposition, and it was explained yesterday they had instead demanded a fee for the centre-back.

That had put the brakes on Bestikas’ attempts to get him, with them not seemingly keen on paying anything for the defender.

The suggestion had been that they were putting an end to their pursuit but Hurriyet report that’s not the case and Aybaba remains ‘in contact’ with Lascelles agents about a move.

Given their window has over a week left to run, it appears there’s no rush to get the Newcastle man as yet.
