Ajax cannot make an offer to convince Erik Ten Hag to continue at the club while Manchester United are courting him.
That’s according to journalist Johan Derksen, who believes the Dutch club would have to make ‘a ridiculous bid’ to keep their manager.
Ten Hag is currently the favourite to take over at Old Trafford in the summer, having established himself as one of the best up and coming managers in European football.
His brand of entertaining football and ability to develop youngsters, coupled with the regular re-building he’s done when Ajax sell their stars each year, are all seen as a perfect fit for the job that is needed at Manchester United moving forwards.
Ten Hag is believed to have held talks with those in charge at United, although they are yet to make a serious move to hire him.
That’s left Ajax in limbo, unsure about whether Ten Hag will be leaving come the summer or remaining to continue the job he’s been doing.
The manager has stayed quiet on the subject himself, and Derksen can see the logic in that for the time being.
“Ajax can hardly make an offer when Manchester United is busy with him. What offer should you make then? A ridiculous bid. It is always too low,” Ajax Showtime report him saying.
“I understand that the boy does not want to talk about it. It is also a bit of coquetting with I’m busy with that and that.
“Ajax is not playing so well at the moment. Then it’s strange if Ajax is performing badly and he’s talking about another club.”
