If a claim from Thursday’s edition of L’Equipe is to be believed, AS Monaco left Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard high and dry this summer… tempting him with an exit from the Scottish Premiership club, before then walking away without giving reason for doing so.
The French newspaper reports that in June, Monaco ‘multiplied contacts’ in an attempt to ‘seduce’ the 21 year old into signing for them.
L’Equipe even state that it worked, the outline of a potential contract for the youngster was drawn up, and then, without explanation, the Ligue 1 club walked away from the Celtic player.
Given how things were broken off, attempts to rebuild the Celtic exit failed, and Edouard stayed at the Glasgow club.
L’Equipe don’t explain this, but it could well be that when Monaco spoke to Neil Lennon’s side they received an answer which meant they couldn’t pursue the signing, either due to an outright refusal from Celtic to sell or an asking price they simply wouldn’t have been prepared to match.
