Sevilla are ‘doing the math’ on a potential move for West Ham United’s Pablo Fornals this month and working out if they can afford him.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the midfielder is ‘one of the bargains’ of the winter market and being eyed up by various sides in Spain as a result.

West Ham recently took up the option to extend his contract until June 2025 to avoid losing him on the summer but that hasn’t ruled out a move away from the London Stadium this month.

Sevilla and Betis have been interested since last summer but the need to prioritise other positions at the club meant interest never turned into concrete moves.

That remains the case but in terms of Sevilla, he would be the ‘first major objective’ for director of football Victor Orta if it’s made a clear that a deal is there to be done.

Everything can ‘change in a matter of days’ or even hours later in the window, but at this moment in time they are not close to a move.

They are, though, ‘doing the math’ on a potential move and seeing if something can be worked out later in the window.

West Ham, for their part, have made their transfer stance clear, refusing to let the Spaniard depart on loan and insisting they will only be open to a transfer or a loan deal with an obligation included in it. They’ve already turned down a dry loan offer from Napoli for the player.

Sevilla are therefore ‘looking out the corner of their eye’, doing the maths on a potential deal and biding their time.
