Porto’s chase for the Sassuolo defender Gianmarco Ferrari is all over the Portuguese media this Wednesday, as the Dragons seek another new defender for the season.
Now there’s an interesting claim coming from A Bola’s story, which lists West Ham United and Sevilla as potential competitors.
According to the newspaper, the interest from these two clubs is what is convincing the Sassuolo president Carlo Rossi to make the sale to Porto more difficult.
So while the Dragons are willing to pay €8m for Ferrari, the Italian side demand €13m. A Bola takes claims from Italy to say that the deal could end up being done for €10m.
Now we’ve recently covered the Chancel Mbemba saga, where Porto struggled to get to a deal with Newcastle, who were demanding €9m for the player.
That makes it unlikely that the Dragons can reach the €13m demanded by Sassuolo. And that undoubtedly gives West Ham or Sevilla some advantage in any race.
The Hammers’ interest in the defender has been reported for a few months now, with journalist Gianluca Di Marzio writing about it in June.
But given the the revolution under Manuel Pellegrini, it’s not too hard to question if Ferrari is really the right standard.
