Olympiacos boss Paulo Bento is in the market for a new striker to bolster his attacking options and has now turned his attentions to Aston Villa’s Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew.
The Greek giant’s primary choice is Trabzonspor’s Oscar Cardozo but they’ve been unable to agree the fee so far and so are looking for alternatives. While it’s clear Cardozo will leave Trabzonspor before the window closes on Wednesday but there are other teams, most notably MLS clubs, chasing him.
Sport24 reports that Olympiacos boss Bento wants to see Jordan Ayew in his squad if the Cardozo move fails. Olympiacos officials made an initial contact with Villa last week about Ayew’s availability. But it’s understood new manager Roberto Di Matteo is not keen on selling him. Di Matteo sees the former Lorient man as a key player as Villa attempt to return the Premier League on first time asking.
Olympiacos are likely to end their striker search on deadline day, and it’s clear that it’s down to two options. One of Cardozo or Ayew.
A £10m signing from French side Lorient, Ayew was leading scorer for Villa last season in the Premier League with 7 goals. Ayew has 24 caps for Ghana and has scored 8 goals for them.
The 25-year old started all of 5 Aston Villa games in Championship this season.
